In recent years, more and more people have been relocating to Jokkmokk.  For the most part, people moving to the area come from EU countries such as Holland, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, Finland, Italy and France.  There are also people from Norway, Thailand, China and the USA living in the region.

Many people move to the area to retire and others to start a new life and a new business at the same time.  In the last five years over 1000 people have moved into the Jokkmokk area and 35 new businesses have been successfully started by families moving into the area from overseas.

The new businesses include a solar cell manufacturer, building services companies, restaurants and hotels, food production companies, wilderness and survival course services, travel and tourist services, hairdressers, life coaching and photographic service companies.

There is substantial new business start up support for those who wish to take advantage of this facility and help includes financial support via bank guarantees and both EU and Swedish grants.  Help is also available to those who would consider relocating an existing business to the region from another country.
